In short Pino navigates fully offline. After downloading a map region, route calculation, guidance and rerouting all run on your phone or Wear OS watch — no signal required.

How offline navigation works

Navigation needs three things: knowing where you are, knowing the road network, and computing the path between them. GPS satellites provide the first without any internet (details here). Downloaded map regions provide the second. Pino's on-device routing engine provides the third. Because all three are local, losing signal changes nothing.

What works during offline navigation

  • Turn-by-turn directions along the calculated route.
  • Automatic rerouting if you leave the route — recalculated on the device.
  • Place and address search for choosing a new destination mid-trip.
  • Position tracking on the map at any zoom level.

What offline navigation cannot include

Anything inherently live is out of scope by definition: real-time traffic, road closures reported minutes ago, or online business data. Pino is honest about this trade-off — it optimizes for working everywhere, not for live data feeds.

On the phone and on the watch

Offline navigation runs on Android phones and standalone on Wear OS watches. On the watch, routing and guidance execute on the watch itself, so you can navigate a run or hike with no phone at all.
